Growing skills. Growing business.

The Safe Haven Hub

The Safe Haven Hub develops and supports pathways to education, training and employment for individuals from refugee background and other recently arrived migrants.

Our workers are based in Hobart and Launceston and are able to provide a range of support to those who are experiencing barriers to employment, education or training. Support will be provided either one-on-one, or in the context of group sessions following an initial intake and assessment of need.

Pathways to employment may include practical assistance for job search; invitation to information sessions and workshops; referral to appropriate support services, courses or training; assistance in pathway planning and decision making; support to obtain a volunteer or work placement; and support with qualification recognition.

The SHH also provides support to employers to assist with the process of placements and employment opportunities for our cohort of clients.

Our clients have lived in Australia for less than five years, are over 18 years of age, and have a basic level of English.

The Safe Haven Hub also provides transitional support services to SHEV and TPV holders who are new to the state. This may include providing information and referrals to mainstream services and providing support and information about settling into life in Tasmania.

With links to industry and employment groups, a particular focus of the Hub is to work with industry councils, employers, jobactive and training providers to fill labour shortages, particularly in growth areas of the Tasmanian economy.
